Glaciem im Momento is a community boathouse located at the entrance of an inlet approaching the opening of Stewart Lake in Ithaca, New York. The boathouse takes inspiration from the forms created as the tide pushes upon the ice on the lake. This motion creates a unique ice pattern along the water that can not be found when it is on-season for rowing. The community boathouse alludes to and pays homage to the site’s conditions when rowing is in its offseason and explores the experience of being within the ice, its conditions, and how it changes over time. The building takes on a more experiential approach of these formations, focusing on the movement throughout the space being derivative of the rigidity, preciseness, and flow of the ice structures.
