Academic Architecture Studio | Fall 2020
This house, located between the Carl Sagan house and another residence, is meant to be a temporary home for two “Sagan Scholars.” Each scholar will only reside in the home for two years before being cycled out for another two scholars. A place for the accumulation of knowledge, the home designed centralizes around the double height library space located on the bottom two floors. This library holds all the materials and books left by previous “Sagan Scholars” to encourage other scholars to broaden their scope of knowledge. Sharing a similar footprint as the Sagan house, this home is an nod-to and aims to have a conversation with it. The home is dictated by two rectangular volumes that encase the private spaces and circulation, with cut-outs that orchestrate light down through the structure.
