The aim of our project proposal is to provide adaptable design solutions for recreational activities being engaged at Quattrostelle by children ages 5 - 13. Combing both ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ design elements, our primary building mechanism utilizes inflatables the children can “blow up” by twirling and fastening open ended nylon pockets/sleeves. In addition to the primary versatile inflatable, our proposal also offers standardized modular pieces that can add rigidity to the inflatables when appropriate.
Complimentary to our modular recreational tools, “instructions manuals” will be illustrated for children of Quattrostelle as narrative coloring books. Quattrostelle represents a energetic playground of cross cultural mixing, growth, and adaptation. We aim to capture the unique community Quattrostelle has fostered through the inclusion of child ‘characters’ inspired by interactions with residents, celebration of togetherness, and highlights of homemaking already present within the daily lives of the children.

With 9 modular pieces, a series of objects such as jungle gyms, playpens, soccer goals, etc., can be quickly and easily made to adapt to the children’s wants and needs.

After school, the children of Quattrostelle are full of excitement and energy to see each other and play. With joyful eagerness the kids can inflate and assemble their structures to transform the area to a playground built by and for kids.
